2021 Program short implementation summary

Online program

Japan-Africa Triangle Education Program opened five online courses in 2021 for students in Japan, Egypt, Zambia, and Malawi. Four out of the five courses covered topics ranging from Peace and SDGs to International Cooperation and Disaster Resilience. The interdisciplinary nature of the program allowed each student to utilize their personal expertise and knowledge relating to their field of study and work together in trying to find possible solutions to SDGs issues relevant in the world today. Students from Egypt and Sub-Saharan Africa also had the exclusive chance to learn about Japanese language and culture.

Beside academics, participating students had the chance to learn about each other’s countries and cultures and by doing so, strengthen intercultural understanding as well as gain confidence in using English while working together in an online environment.

HU to Africa

Academic year 2021 saw the first Hiroshima University student fly to Zambia for a 2-Semester Study Abroad program.

Africa to HU

Four students from participating universities in Africa were accepted as special auditing students, but due to Covid-19 restrictions were unfortunately unable to come to Japan. However, despite time differences, the four students were able to take specialized courses online and earn study credits for Japanese language courses.
