Africa Seminar: Let's learn in Africa!
HU launched the new educational program with six African universities, the triangular study abroad program for reciprocal partnership with North and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The seminar was held to provide the opportunity for students to know the program, the triangular study abroad program for reciprocal partnership with North and Sub-Saharan Africa, and HU’s efforts in Africa.
In this seminar, three HU faculties from three different fields that the Triangle Education Program focuses on (education, healthcare, and food security) provided lectures on their education and research efforts in Africa. Professor Yoko Shimpuku, from Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences (Health Sciences) and the only Japanese woman selected as one of the 100 outstanding female nurse/midwife leaders in the world, introduced her efforts to improve the childbirth environment for women in Tanzania. Prof. Tadashi Shimamoto, Graduate School of Integrated Biosciences, introduced his research on virus suppression by persimmon tannin (Kaki-Shibu) to ensure food safety. Prof. Takuya Baba, from Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, introduced the University’s longstanding efforts in the Zambia Education Program and his research on the development of science and mathematics education in Africa. The online participants asked a variety of questions, and a fruitful Q&A session ensued.
