Africa to HU
After successfully completing the Japan-Africa Triangle Education Program‘s online courses, five excellent students from University of Zambia, Cairo University, and Beni-Suef University were invited to study at Hiroshima University for the 2022 Fall semester. Before setting foot in the country, the selected students were given the chance to prepare themselves via an online course covering basic Japanese language and culture.
Once in Hiroshima and settled down for the new semester, the students were able to join both Japanese language classes as well as take subject classes taught in English based on each students academic interests and field of expertise. Besides classes, the group had opportunities to participate in various international exchange events and excursions off-campus. Destinations included both local cultural and historical sites such as Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and private companies such as Fumakilla Corporation, and SATAKE.
A fruitful experience
During their semester in Hiroshima, the five students immersed into life in Japan as international students. With the support of local students, teachers, and Hiroshima University staff, they had the precious opportunity to learn how to overcome cultural differences and navigate an unfamiliar societal system. At the end of their time in Hiroshima University, the students returned to their home countries – some stating they hope to some day make it back to Japan.
HU thanks the students for their efforts, sincerity, and open-mindedness and wishes continued success with their studies in the future.
